Tea in Riperian Stratford upon Avon......

hit counter
Stratford upon Avon is a place close to our hearts.  We visit it often and, dare I say it, have lunch there more times in a year than we can quantify.   Many the time we have sauntered along the riverside towards Holy Trinity and watched the swans, ducks and geese as they chatter and flock together.

Hathaway Tea Rooms is our most favourite haunt.  It is a genuine Tudor building  in the centre of Stratford (just off the High Street) and has the whole of the two rooms on the first floor smoke free.  The tearooms had a smoking room before the smoking ban but even then we never felt oppressed by any wafting smoke as we sat in the main area upstairs. The main room upstairs looks out on to the street and  has a lovely open flame gas fire that burns brightly in the winter months.

There is a waitress service and the food, all good English fayre,  is served hot and fresh.  We can, both of us, personally vouch for the ham, egg and chips and the steak and mushroom pie with vegetables.  Yes - we ARE boring......but we know what we like so there!

The tearooms are open every day of the week and there are good and clean conveniences available on the ground floor (gents) and second floor (ladies).  Do note too that the floor is uneven as befits any genuine Tudor building.  But hey.........it all adds to the charm!  Also.....we cannot comment about any disabled access.  Please obtain those details yourself by contacting the tea room direct.

Druckers  is situated near to Holy Trinity Church Stratford. (apologies for not giving the full address - we will provide this later)   It is a self service tea room which sells lovely pastries and sandwiches.  The tearoom is just "off the beaten track"  in  "Old Town" and is situated within an old historic building (Halls Croft - house of Dr John Hall, Shakespeare's son in law - we think) so ancient "ambience" is everything.   The tables are well spaced out too!  The plethora of soft furnishings also help make it a lovely quiet space in which to enjoy that chat to a friend you haven't seen for ages!  We have spent many a pleasant quiet hour there meeting friends for morning coffee and cake.  Never once has it been crowded, even on a Saturday morning!

We thoroughly recommend both the above venues for all visitors to the United Kingdom who want an eaterie that combines solitude, good food and "Ye Olde English" ambience.

Caveat: Our guide is based on our own personal experience/snapshot of a cafe/teashop/restaurant at the time of visiting.  No inference therefore can be taken that the level of service we received on the times visiting was either standard or average.
