A Saturday out to
St Albans is NEVER complete without a stop for
a spot of lunch and cup of tea! I admit that our love affair with St
Albans began when we visited it for the very first time to see an ex-vicar of
Holy Trinity Church Coventry, Reverend Nigel Abbot (now Reverend Canon Nigel
Abbot of course!) made Canon of the "Cathedral and Abbey of St
Alban".
We
particularly love to wander into the park next to the Abbey and stroll along the
river there. The expansive gardens and lake are a wonderful place to
watch the varied wildlife that inhabit the area. Before recommending our
favourite place.................check out a few wonderful views of the Cathedral
and Abbey Church of St Alban and surrounds below . (hover the mouse over the
photo for a description) and then follow St Abigails
to find out more about our favourite teashop....
Abigails
Tea Rooms (see here on the left) are situated within the beautiful shadow of the Abbey
itself. The view towards Abigails can be seen here to the left looking
away from the Abbey which is behind the camera. The tea rooms are waitress service and the tables are prettily
decorated with white lacy tablecloths. We have never suffered ANY
smoke in these tearooms EVEN before the English smoking ban came into force and we have visited them a fair number of times now. We have to give this establishment our
full marks for everything. The conveniences are clean too!
Caveat:
Our guide is based on our own personal experience/snapshot of a
cafe/teashop/restaurant at the time of visiting. No inference therefore
can be taken that the level of service we received on the times visiting was
either standard or average.
