Cairns Botanical Gardens have THE most lovely waitress service cafeteria imaginable.  We both enjoyed a great croissant and jam with a cuppa there one morning whilst staying in Cairns back in August 2001.  The gardens are an absolute delight too with its varied fauna and flora.

Lake Barrine Tea Rooms

The tea rooms are situated on the Barrine Lake in the Atherton Tablelands, Queensland.  We happened upon them after a long windy drive from Cairns.  We couldn't believe the absolute beauty and tranquility of this lovely peaceful lake when we saw it for the first time.  It was even better to discover that the Lake had a tea room to match too!  We enjoyed our time there so much we have already vowed to return.  The young cockatiel in the shop (see me, Sarah with said birdie below!)  was a delightful companion as he was happy to greet and sit with any visitors that cared to pay attention to him.

The food and service was great and we thoroughly enjoyed watching life go by on the lake as we enjoyed our lunch. The only thing that marred the occasion was our own incompetence in managing NOT to plug our camcorder microphone into the socket which meant we ended up with the most annoying soundless monologue from Andrew!

Top marks have to be awarded here!  (but NOT to Sarah who failed miserably in her camcorder duties!)

Caveat: Our guide is based on our own personal experience/snapshot of a cafe/teashop/restaurant at the time of visiting.  No inference therefore can be taken that the level of service we received on the times visiting was either standard or average.
