Stewart McDonald

Stewart started out with Monarchs at Powderhall and left, after a well publicized bust-up, to join Glasgow. He was part of the second division double winning Tigers team in 1994. The creation of the unified Premier League in 1995 forced Glasgow to strengthen up and Stewart moved to Middlesbrough. The Bears had a troubled season and had only one recognized heat leader in Shane Parker. This left Stewart at Number 8 without much opportunity to show what he could do. Things looked up in 1996 when a move to Wolverhampton reunited Stewart with former Glasgow team-mate James Grieves. The Wolves team secured a double in the unified Premier League in 1996.

Stewart was again the victim of restructuring in 1997 with the move to a two division set-up and six rider teams saw him squeezed out of the Wolves team. He rejoined Glasgow as third heat leader behind Neil Collins and Mick Powell. He performed with some crdit averaging over seven points.

After changing his mind on an initial decision to sit out the 1998 season to play junior football he was omitted from the Tigers team. He came back in the Test Match series for Scotland versus the England Under-21 side but failed to make much impression on borrowed equipment. He later made a return to the Premier League mid-season with Stoke but never really got going in a struggling team.

Stewart has generally been a good performer around Armadale with Glasgow and as a guest for other visitors. He has probably beaten all the current Monarchs heat leaders at Armadale at one time or another.

Date of birth: 19/6/75, Bellshill.
