Robert Larsen

Robert first rode for Monarchs in 1995 in the inaugural season of the combined British Premier League where he was the third heat leader along with Mike Faria and Kenny McKinna. After missing the first two league matches he was thrown in against Swindon at Powderhall despite only having arrived in Edinburgh that day. Robert made a sensational debut with a score of 10+2 from 5 rides including a win over then World No 3 Craig Boyce. This had many supporters looking through the records for the best ever debut performances.

In the next meeting against Exeter, Robert struggled on a deeper surface and scored 3+1 from four rides. Thereafter his performances deteriorated and his best score was 4 from four rides away at Bradford. He dropped from heat leader to reserve but suffered an injury against Wolverhampton and was dropped from the Monarchs team.

He then spent some time at Coventry as Number 8 but was unable to get anything more than an occasional ride and returned to Denmark. Coventry judged him to have potential but stated that they needed someone who could score points immediately in the tough environment of the combined Premier League.

He returned to Monarchs this year to fill a second string rôle in the new Premier League on a very competitive average.
