Paul Gould

Paul returned to Speedway after taking most of the 1996 season out. He made a handful of Second Division appearances for Monarchs and then rode for Berwick and Linlithgow in the Conference and Amateur League.

He was the only ever present in the 1997 Monarchs line-up and proved the match winner on numerous occasions. After starting as reserve he soon established himself as the top monarchs second string. His best result was match-winning 12+3 away at Arena Essex and followed this six days later with a paid maximum at home to Sheffield.

Paul probably made more outside passes than any other Monarchs’ rider in 1997. He specialized in winning heat one of the nominated heats.

He would have been a very strong contender for rider of the year but for the brilliance of Peter Carr.

Date of birth: 28/9/70, Lymm. Cheshire.
