Barry Campbell

Barry in action

Barry signed for the Scottish Monarchs in 1996 and starred in the all-conquering Linlithgow Lightening side. He made one appearance for the senior side before being given a regular place in 1997.

Barry started the season in sensational style picking up some big scores in the Premier League Cup Qualifiers. Barry was removed from the Monarchs’ 1 to 6 to accommodate Peter Carr but stayed as Team Reserve taking the rides of the injured Blair Scott and later covering for Neil Hewitt. Barry missed only one match in 1997, against Skegness at Armadale.

Barry suffered in mid season due to mechanical problems and poor gating but came back later in the year with some strong performances including a critical 7+1 in the Scottish Cup second leg at Shawfield and scores of 5 and 8 against Long Eaton in the Play-off semi-finals.

Barry is a very stylish rider and rides a very tight line. He is accomplished at passing but needs to improve his starting technique if his average is to rise as high as is expected.
