After its inaugural season in 1997, the Premier League has not allowed riders requiring a work permit. The only exceptions to this rule were rides who remained with their own club after 1997 or had acquired UK status in the meantime. Examples include the likes of Craig Watson and Brent Werner.
Most Premier League riders are British apart from a number of European Union riders, mostly Danes, Swedes, and Finns.
This will probably of most help to young Australian riders plus also some prospects from the Czech Republic.
John Campbell supported the move arguing that the Premier League has been weakened by the ban on work permit riders.
