The initial news from the British Speedway Promoters Association Conference have been released. The main points are listed below:
The Premier League is expected to run with the same thirteen teams as in 1999. Decisions are expected shortly from Berwick and Stoke.
The points limit for the Premier League will be 45 points. This has been expected having been trailed for weeks.
The Golden Double tactical substitution will continue but will apply only when a team is eight or more points behind. The standard tactical substitution will contine to operate when a team is six or more points behind.
The Premier National Trophy will run with two qualification groups rather than three. This might have been taken to suggest that a reduction in the number of teams in the Premier League was expected. This will add four or six fixtures to each team and will make the pre-season competition drag on far too long.
The Premier League Cup will remain on a strict knockout basis. The Premier League and the Young Shield playoffs will continue as in 1999.
There is no mention of the Premier League Fours or the Pairs.
Further details will be posted when available.
