Edinburgh Deny Move for Andersen

Edinburgh have denied rumours they are set to bring former rider Jan Andersen to Armadale.

Jan rode for Monarchs at Powderhall in 1994 and 1995 before moving to Coventry to join his younger brother, Danish Grand Prix star, Brian. Since then he has been with Peterborough in their championship winning sides in 1998 and 1999.

Jan will be best remebered for his contribtion to Monarchs in the combined Premier League in 1995. Edinburgh were struggling in the early part of the season with Mike Faria as their only recognized heat leader. Jan kept Monarchs from a total meltdown with some massive scores from reserve. When he injured his collarbone at Kings Lynn he had pushed his average up to nine-points. Monarchs were then in a position to use the likes of Mark Loram, Bobby Ott, and Shane Parker as guests. While Jan was unable to maintain his nine-point average after returning from injury, he did put in some notable performances including two wins over Mark Loram in Monarchs' big win at Exeter.

It is rumoured that the thirty year-old was considering ending his career in the Premier League despite an impressive season in the Elite League. The problem is that his average would be prohibative for most Premier League teams. Alex Harkess commented:

"Jan would come into our division on an 11-point average and trying to fit a rider into your side on that figure would be nigh on impossible. There is certainly no truth in the rumour that he will be riding for us. We haven't even given him a thought."

"I don't know where the story surfaced. As far as I am aware, Jan is still very much part of Peterborough's plans for next season. He still has many friends up here but for Monarchs he is just not a proposition."
