Monarchs Dance

The 1999 Edinburgh team, with the exception of James Grieves, will be present at Monarchs' annual dance on Saturday. This will include Stewart McDonald and David McAllan who were regulars in the team until they were injured.

James, who is going to Mexico on holiday was disappointed to miss the event. Grieves added:

"I'm sorry about the timing of it because I really enjoyed the year and I wanted to be there. I've heard that John Campbell doesn't like rider to miss the dance, but I couldn't avoid it."

The Premier League Cup will be displayed at the Orwell Lodge which is now the regular venue for the dance. The Orwell Lodge also hosts Monarchs' pre-season talk-in and has sponsored a number of Edinburgh riders over the years including currently Peter Carr.

There is a possibility that one team announcement for 2000 will be made on Saturday. The full line-up cannot be established until after the points limit, believed to be 45.00, is finalized at the BSPA Conference.

There was a strong hint that Aiden Collins, who made him Premier League debut for Edinburgh in the National Trophy semi-final against Newcastle, could figure in Monarchs' plans. Aiden also appeared in Monarchs' Young Shield match against Exeter and impressed. He became a semi-regular for Glasgow in the latter part of the season so there could well be fierce competition for his signature. This year, Aiden was restricted in not being able to drive and required Les to transport him. This will, hopefully, not apply next year.
