The Premier League season is now entering its final phase with only three meetings to be held and two competitions to settle. Still to be run are the two-leg Young Shield Final between League Champions Sheffield and National Trophy winners Newport and the second leg of the Cup Final between Arena Essex and Edinburgh.
The Cup Final second leg is due to be held this coming Saturday at Purfleet while the Young Shield could be run this coming Thursday and Sunday although next week is also a possibility.
This means that Premier League season is effectively over for all bar the above four teams save for a few individual meetings and challenge matches.
The Premier League Trophies decided so far have been taken by three tracks. Sheffield have won the Premier League, the Premier League Fours, and the Premier League Riders' Championship. Newport have taken the Premier National Trophy. Workington have taken the Premier League Pairs and the Silver Helmet.
Clearly a fourth team (Edinburgh or Arena Essex) will take some silverware. This compares well with the Elite League where it is highly likely that Peterborough and Poole will take most, if not all, of the four trophies on offer.
A aggregate win for Monarchs against Arena Essex will keep up their record of having won a trophy each year since the creation of the Premier League in its current format in 1997. Monarchs won the Premier League Cup and the Premier League Riders' Championship in 1997. They followed this with a win in the Premiership in 1998 staged between the 1997 League Champions and Cup Winners.
Monarchs have also won the Spring Trophy after beating Workington home and away and are expected to win the Scottish Cup a week on Friday at Armadale after winning the away leg at Ashfield.
