Sheffield Win Premier League

Sheffield finally clinched the Premier League title by beating the Isle of Wight at Smallbrook on Tuesday. This ended the albeit mathematical chances of Newport overhauling Sheffield.

There are four seven a side Premier League Trophies: the League, the Knockout Cup, the Premier National Trophy, and the Young Shield. There is one Four team event, one Pairs event and two individual prizes: the Premier League Riders Championship and the Silver Helmet.

So far four Premier League Trophies have been decided. Sheffield have taken both the Premier League Title and the Fours. Workington have won the Premier League Pairs and their number one Carl Stonehewer has taken the Silver Helmet.

That leaves four Trophies still to be decided and Monarchs are involved in all of them.

The next Trophy to be sorted will be the Premier League Riders Championship. This is to be run at Sheffield next Sunday afternoon. This is run between the top rider from each Premier League track plus the three 'number two' riders with the highest averages. Peter Carr and James Grieves compete for Monarchs against Sean Wilson, Carl Stonehewer, Glenn Cunningham, Paul Pickering and the others.

Monarchs are involved in the Final of the Premier National Trophy and the Premier League Knockout Cup over the next three weeks against Newport and Aena Essex respectively.

Edinburgh will take either second or third place in the Premier League and will meet the seventh or sixth place team in the first round of the Young Shield.
