The match at Berwick was the last one to count towards the September Green Sheet Averages. This could have important consequences for Monarchs who will have a packed month of fixtures in September. This will include Monarchs last home match against Arena Essex plus away Premier League matches at Newcastle and Glasgow. Possible of greatest importance will be the home and away legs of the Premier National Trophy against Newport and a possible Cup Final against Arena Essex or Exeter.
Unconfirmed averages come out as follows:
Peter Carr | 9.61 |
James Grieves | 9.46 |
Kevin Little | 8.08 |
Ross Brady | 6.97 |
Blair Scott | 5.53 |
Stewart McDonald | 5.51 |
David McAllan | 3.91 |
James Birkinshaw | 2.49 |
The implications are that if these averges are confirmed, Blair Scott will step up to second string with Stewart McDonald dropping to reserve. This means that the rider replacement facility will cease to operate. Unless Stewart makes a quick recovery, Monarchs will have no option but to replace him at reserve by a Junior. The best that could happen is that David McAllan could come back allowing James Birkinshaw to replace Stewart.
Monarchs have failed in another attempt to sign an overseas rider to replace Stewart so rider replacement will continue to operate for the match against Sheffield on Friday. Things will not become critical until the end of the month. According to the current rule book no changes in teams are permitted after the end of August.
The current Premier League teams with last month's averages are given below. A number of team changes can be expected over the next two weeks as teams move to beat the deadline. The prospect of the Young Shield Play-offs remain for all bar the bottom two or three teams in the Premier League Tables.
The possible changes include Paul Fry returing for Stoke at the expense of René Aas. Glasgow who recently failed in a bid to recruite Martin Dixon as a replacement for the injured Emiliano Sanchez, may make another attempt to provide cover.
Northern Teams | Edinburgh, Glasgow, Berwick, and Newcastle. |
Central Teams | Sheffield, Swindon, Stoke, and Workington. |
Southern Teams | Exeter, Newport, Reading, Isle of Wight, and Arena Essex. |
