Fours Finals Washed Out

Monarchs bid for the Premier League National Fours title was washed out at Peterborough on Sunday.

The match seemed to have survived the rainfall in the South of England, until a very heavy downpour just before the parade was due left the track totally waterlogged and there was no option other that to call things off.

Monarchs in the favourable white helmets, were drawn in the first Semi-Final against the Isle of Wight (red helmets), Newport (blue helmets), and Swindon (yellow/black helmets).

Several team were depleted due to injury. Monarchs were without reserve Stewart McDonald with James Birkinshaw deputizing. The strongly favoured Isle of Wight team were worst hit with Philippe Bergé still injured and reserve Danny Bird also missing after his crash at Armadale on Friday. Tommy Palmer was not there after having his van, his bikes, and all his kit stolen and burnt out at Bathgate on Friday night. This means that Glen Phillips stepped up into the team and no reserve was available. Newport were missing Scott Pegler due to injury and Andrew Appleton stepped up to the team with Chris Neath coming in at reserve. Swindon in the unfavourable yellow and black helmets were the only team in the Semi-Final at full strength. Monarchs looked a good bet to progress to the final, but didn't get the chance.

The restaging date will be Sunday 29th August at Peterborough.

Monarchs will be hoping that they do not suffer any more injuries before the restaging date.
