Grieves Rediscovers His Appetite

Monarchs Number 1 may have been out for the last week after injuries picked up at Newport and Exeter but he admitted:

"For the first time in two year, I'm enjoying my speedway again. It's funny, but some of the English fans told me last week I'm back to my old days when I rode for Glasgow Tigers. They can see the old James Grieves. The last couple of years, I've been fed up with the sport. I'd been struggling and wasn't making any money."

"But I'm feeling good at Edinburgh. We're up at the top of the League and are challenging for trophies.

Grieves thinks that he cracked a rib when he was brought down at Newport by guest team mate Paul Pickering. He continued, though in pain, and won two more races including a herioc heat 15 defeat of Craig Watson and Frank Smart.

At Exeter, he was hit from behind by Chris Harris when leading his second ride. This forced him out of the meeting which he thinks Monarchs sould have won if he had not been injured. As it was Monarchs faced a battle to take the bonus point. Grieves paid tribute to Ross Brady who secured the bonus point with a great 14 point haul on his first visit to the County Ground.

"Ross loves flat-out tracks but doesn't like small circuits. I'm the opposite."

Monarchs currently trail Sheffield by 4 points in the Premier League with one (away) game in hand. However a detailed analysis would put the teams virtually neck-and-neck. James Grieves added defiantly:

"I think that the race for the championship will go right down to the wire."
