Edinburgh's teenage sensation Ross Brady is taking lessons on how to ride the tricky Armadale track, from teammate Peter Carr.
Brady joined Monarchs on a three-point average prior to the start of the season. It was hoped that he would push this up to five or six points by the end of the season. He has far exceeded these expectations. He scored freely at reserve and has maintained a his current seven-point average despite moving from reserve to number four.
Although he has scored quite well everywhere, he sometimes looks uncomfortable on the smaller tracks including Armadale. He appears to ride Armadale rather wide. He doesn't cut hard across on the second bend and can lose position. Ross is aware that he has yet to find the quickest way around his home track and is anxious to rectify this as soon as possible. Ross commented:
"I'm still learning and I haven't figured it out yet. I'm still finding it difficult and I'm trying to get my engine set up properly too. I seem to be riding too wide. I had a word with Peter after last week's meeting and hopefully we can sort something out."
"Riding wide is OK if there is dirt down because there is plenty to pull you round. If there is no dirt, it's no good. Peter has given me some tips on how to come into the corners and what lines to take. He's been great and I can't thank him enough. I wnt to pay him back by showing I'm learning about the the track"
Ross has rejected suggestions that his 'round the boards' style left him open to being passed on the inside.
"It may look like that sometimes to the fans. But nine times out of ten you have the speed coming out of the bands into the straight. The only person who really flies around Armadale is Peter."
Ross is currnetly preparing for the southern tour and the match against Exeter at Armadale on Friday. Ross has recently guested twice for Exeter in the cup at Workington and at Berwick.
"I scored 11 points for them at Berwick. I was really pleased with my performance. I should have scored more, but I was a bit too anxious to pass other riders and lost out on a few points."
Ross rode at number 5 for Exeter and could have scored better but for an exclusion for falling and also a tape exclusion. He won two heats including heat 15 and was only beaten by Scott Lamb and Alan Mogridge. He also got up the noses of the Berwick support with some hard riding.
