James Grieves Wins Newcastle 70th Celebration Match

Monarchs number one, James Grieves, won tonight's Challenge match at Brough Park to celebrate the 70th Aniversary of Newcastle Speedway. There was a very strong field including the top Newcastle riders and four Elite League riders

James finished on 14 points ahead of Berwick's Scott Lamb and Sheffield's André Compton who both scored 12 points. Kevin Little had a late invite to replace Martin Dixon and took fourth place.

This is a major boost less than a week before the second leg of the Premier League Cup is held at Brough Park especially as Kevin Little finished ahead of all the home riders and narrowly missed a rostrum place.

If Grieves and Little can repeat this next week, coupled with the excellent recent form of Peter Carr and Stewart McDonald, this gives Monarchs an excellent chance of reversing their recet defeat at Brough Park and progressing to the last eight of the Premier League Cup.
