Scott Nicholls Retains British Under-21 Title

The favourites Scott Nicholls and Lee Richardson occupied the top rostrum positions in the British Under-21 Championship at Peterborough. This is the second successive year that Nicholls has won the title and the third successive year that Richardson has finished as runner-up. Local prodigy David Howe fished one point behind Richardson. Predictably, Simon Stead and Paul Lee also did well using their experience and local track expertise.

Of the Monarchs riders and assets, Barry Campbell did best and ended joint 6th with ten points ahead of Ross Brady and Blair Scott. The results are listed below:

Scott Nicholls (Poole) 15
Lee Richardson (Poole)14
David Howe (Peterborough)12
Simon Stead (Sheffield) 12
Paul Lee (Sheffield) 11

Matt Read (Arena Essex) 10
Barry Campbell (Belle Vue) 10
Danny Bird (Isle of Wight) 8
Ross Brady (Edinburgh) 5
Roger Lobb (Arena Essex) 4
Blair Scott (Edinburgh) 4
Grant MacDonald (Workington) 4
Lee Dicken (Hull) 3
Chris Neath (Newport) 3
Chris Harris (Exeter) 3
Ollie Allen (Swindon) 0

Mark Blackwell (Workington) 1 (Reserve)
Marc Norris (Reading) 1 (Reserve)

While David Howe missed out this year his chance will surely come. This year will be Nicholls's last year in the Under-21 Championship while Richardson has only one more year left.

Hopefully Blair, Barry, and Ross will go one better next year and add a Scottish presence in the Continental rounds.
