National Trophy Latest

Newcastle have already qualified for the Semi-Finals as winners of the northern Group. They have only one fixture left, away to Glasgow. This should take place in the opening meeting at Ashfield on Sunday.

No clear winners have emerged from the Central group. Sheffield are currently pace setters although Workington or Swindon could yet qualify. If Sheffield win their final Qualifing match at Workington, Swindon will need to win all their remaining games to go through. Workington, with one away win at Stoke, could proceed if they win their remaining home games and take the bonus point off Swindon.

Newport appear to have the edge in the Southern group although it is still early days. Newport have one away win and none of the other sides has looked remotely like winning away from home. Reading and Exeter could yet qualify if they can do someting on the road.

Monarchs' prospects of qualification depend on the wild card place as best Group runner-up. This will be awarded to the Group runner-up with the highest aggregate points difference over their Group Qualifier matches. Monarchs need to win at Berwick and probably at Glasgow to ensure that they finish second in the Northern Group and in a position to to take that place. Monarchs have two big wins already against Bewick and Glasgow
