This week, the BSPA has signed a deal with BSkyB to show Elite League Matches on Sky Sports. This involves coverage of 20 live matches on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
The deal does not include Premier League matches although it appears that there has been some discussion about a weekly programme of Premier League Speedway on the cable channel L!VE TV. This would be a similar format to the current coverage of stock car racing on the same channel.
This deal was not specifically for Monarchs. However, the presence of L!VE TV in Edinburgh on Channel 18, suggests that Monarchs would probably have a high profile.
This led some reporters to get the wrong end of the stick to suggest that Monarchs were negotiating directly with Edinburgh L!VE. This was published in the Scotsman and in Peter Oakes column in the Sun. Nothing appeared in the Edinburgh Evening News which is normally first to break such news. Any negotiation would be between the Premier League and headquarters of the cable company.
If this deal is concluded by he Premier League, it is not expected that any payment will be received. It will be aim at raising the profile of Speedway rather then generating cash.
