The Edinburgh Pink reported that Monarchs' second string Blair Scott was on the verge of securing a lucrative sponsorship deal.
It is ironical that just as Monarchs are reeling from the loss of their main sponsor, Blair Scott appears likely to secure his biggest ever personal sponsorship deal.
After changing jobs, Blair is now employed by the Edinburgh based tyre and exhaust company Kwik-Fit. He appears likely to secure sponsorship to cover all the tyres he will use this season provided that the Kwik-Fit Board approve the deal. Since tyre sponsorship is normally pitched at £30 per meeting, this will amount to a considerable sum.
"I don't want to get too excited until everything is finalized and down on paper. The tyre sponsorship is virtually guaranteed. Anything on top of that would be a terrific bonus, but I can't say too much in case it falls through."
After being promoted from resrve to second string, he has a key role in the championship challenge by the Monarchs this season. He was criticized for his attitude and level of finess last season. He admits that he wasn't dedicated enough at times and promised a new start this year.
"I'm really going to concentrate on my machinery this season. I've already ordered a new engine from Kenny McKinna and this is due to arrive from Italy within the next couple of weeks. And Kenny, as he did last year, will continue to service my motors and I'm happy about that."
Explaining part of the malaise he suffered, Scott added:
"I had a couple of personal problems last year which didn't help me. I also lost my confidence and my head went down. That's when you start to think you're no good. I think I proved towards the end of the season that I have a future with Monarchs despite the fact that some people were starting to right me off."
"I'm determined to do something this year. If I can't increase my average by at least a couple of points, I might as well chuck it in."
"It's going to be an important campaign for me. I've been given more responsibility. It's up to me to justify the faith the Monarchs management have shown in me."
"I think the side which has been assembled is capable of pushing for honours. It's a good side, a championship winning side."
"As long as everyone pulls their weight we should do all right."
