Paul Gould signs for Newcastle
Edinburgh Monarchs Rider, Paul Gould has signed for Newcastle for the 1999 season. He two other former Monarchs, Robert Eriksson and Steven Jones. While Paul was never in the same team as Steven, he partnered Robert regularly in the Monarchs team of 1997. Also in the Diamonds team is former Glasgow favourite David Walsh.
Workington latest
Another Monarch still looking for a team is Barry Campbell who remains a possibility for a vacant second string position at Workington. There are also two vacancies in the Comets line-up at reserve.
Berwick take-over completed
The take-over of Berwick has now been completed. This should ensure the future for the Sheilfield Park outfit. Along with the promotion, the contracts of three riders has been transferred to the new consortium. These are Scott Lamb, Jorg Pingel and Wesley Waite. The contracts for the other riders, including prize asset David Meldrum, remains with the former promoters Mike and Yvette Hope. This should clear the way for Berwick to commence team building.
Glasgow news
The Glasgow promotion are on the look-out for an alternative stadium should they be kicked out of Shawfield and the Ashfield project fail to win planning consent. Currently in the frame are Carfin dog track in the Motherwell area and Kilsyth juniors football ground near Cumbernauld. Maybe a move out of Glasgow could have a positive effect on the fortunes of the Tigers? The move to Armadale certainly worked for Monarchs. There also remains the possibility of Station Road Stadium in Long Eaton!
Mick Powell has returned from Australia and is expected to sign and to complete the Tigers line-up as soon as the Stadium issue is resolved.
