Monarchs reported a five percent increase in season ticket sales for 1999. This came as something of a surprise after a rather disappointing season in 1998. The bulk of these sales came before Edinburgh signed James Grieves. The Monarchs support overwhelmingly wanted Grieves to replace Kenny McKinna. Monarchs promoter John Campbell commented:
"We sold the majority of the tickets before we even put a team together. I think that Stewart McDonald was the only rider to have come on board when people bought their tickets"
"And Stewart isn't the most popular man at Armadale!"
"I think that Edinburgh have the highest season ticket sales in the Premier League".
"And we do work hard to make that the case. It's not a simple matter of just advertizing the fact that season tickets are on sale. I do write to everyone who has had one before asking them to renew. We take a bit of trouble over that and we get the reward.".
"The other important thing to bear in mind is that we provide some of the most entertaining speedway in the country on a week by week basis".
