Robert Eriksson has signed for Newcastle. Monarchs wanted Robert to go out on loan this season since the 41 point limit made it near impossible to accommodate him in the team. They still plan to recall him for next season to replace James Grives who will almost certainly return to Wolverhampton.
It seemed likely that Robert would go to Berwick but uncertainty over the future of the Shielfield outfit have steered him towards Newcastle.
Newcastle now have three riders confirmed, Robert Eriksson, Jesper Olsen and former Monarchs and Dale Devils rider, Steven Jones.
Robert did well at Brough Park when riding for Monarchs in 1997 scoring 10, 11 and 11 points in his three visits. He comes in on an average of 9.61 based on his 1997 figures.
Robert initially decided to sit out the 1998 Premier League season and Kevin Little took his place in the Monarchs team. He later changed his mind and signed on loan for Elite League Belle Vue. After riding six races and finding the going tough at reserve in the six-man Elite League format, Robert quit and returned to Sweden. He continued to ride for Indianerna. He helped his home town club to finish third in the Swedish Elite League.
Alex Harkess added:
"Robert is no good to us sitting at home doing nothing, so I am very pleased that he has found a premier club for this season. I think he'll do extremely well for Newcastle".
