Latest on injuries

Peter Carr is still hopeful of making the line-up for the match against Berwick on Friday. He is leaving until later to decide. If not, a guest will be brought in. Monarchs will have the pick of anyone in the Premier League.

Peter added:

"The leg gets a little better each day. I can drive with a brace on, but it doesn't allow enough movement for riding. I plan to get a different brace to wear while racing, though it's quite expensive. When I catch my leg and move it to the side, that is painful, this is what the brace is supposed to stop. Wednesday is decision day."

Things are less encouraging in the case of Dalle Andersson who still has a broken ankle encased in plaster and is he is not expected to be back until well into August. Dalle remains at reserve for the rest of July. Rory Schlein will cover for the home matches against Berwick and Newport plus the mini-tour to Arena Essex and Newport. Dalle is almost certain to move up to a heat leader position in August at the expense of Jan Andersen. From then on there will be option of using guests or rider replacement.

It was originally hoped that Edinburgh would take advantage of Dalle's spell at reserve in June and July. He did put in a match winning performance at Trelawny. He will have missed at five away matches by the end of this month. Eminently winnable fixtures at Stoke and Exeter have been lost and a bonus point was 'mislaid' on the Isle of Wight. The matches at Arena Essex and Newport could also be considered well within the reach of a full-strength team. The loss of Dalle's scoring power at reserve will make it very difficult to get a result at either venue.

Monarchs will also be without Blair Scott on Friday on World Under-21 Championship duty. Rider replacement will operate with extra outings for Jan Andersen, Christian Henry, and the reserves. Edinburgh could have only four of their regular team lining-up. It is as well that Ben Shields made such a quick recovery from his fall on Friday or things could be even worse.

In 1999 Monarchs had a potential championship winning team. Long term injuries to Stewart McDonald and David McAllan along with niggling injuries suffered by James Grieves and Kevin Little ensured that it didn't happen. It appears that injuries to Peter Carr and Dalle Andersson at a key time on top of earlier injuries to Robert Eriksson and Jan Andersen appear to have done the same thing this year.
