Monarchs thrash Berwick

Monarchs had a easy time brushing aside the much changed Berwick side at Armadale. Berwick were very poor and only Michal Makovsky, Scott Robson and to a lesser extent Scott Lamb put up any resistance.

Monarchs took an early grip with five successive heat advantages and never looked back. So complete was the grip by Monarchs that Berwick failed to secure a heat advantage and only tied three heats. Fourteen heat wins for Edinburgh and thirteen last places/non scoring rides for Berwick says it all!

Peter Carr and Robert Eriksson both secured easy five-ride paid maximums. Jan Andersen had a four ride full maximum. Blair Scott took 5 paid 6 despite a last bend fall when on a paid win. René Aas scored 4 paid 5 from four without ever looking convincing. Christian Henry with 8 paid 9 and Derek Sneddon with 5 paid 6 both looked good.

Monarchs will face much tougher competition next week with the revamped Hull team due to visit for Edinburgh's last Premier National Trophy qualifier. The following week could prove to be even tougher with Newcastle the opponents in the Premier League Cup.

Match report

The result has come rather too late to rescue Monarchs' hopes of qualification for the Premier National Trophy semi-finals:
