Edinburgh lose at Sheffield

Edinburgh went down by 52 points to 39 at Owlerton and in doing so kept themselves with at least a fighting chance of taking the aggregate match point at Armadale on Friday.

Peter Carr predicably was top scorer for Edinburgh with 13 paid 14 from six rides. He was backed up by Jan Andersen with 10 from five and guest André Compton also with 10 from six rides. Blair Scott picked up 4 paid 7 from four rides and Chrsitian Henry 2 from three rides. Ben Shields and Derek Sneddon failed to score from three rides.

Monarchs picked up two heat advantages. One was a 5-1 in heat 8 from tactical substitute Peter Carr and Blair Scott. Jan Andersen and André Compton took a 5-2 in heat 14 after Compton found it difficult to come from the back off a 'golden double'.

One of the rides of the night could be Peter Carr coming from a 15 metre handicap after tape touching to pass an ailing Robbie Kessler.

Match report to follow

Monarchs are still hanging on in there for qualification but probably need to win all remaining home matches plus one away match to remain in contention. The bonus point against Sheffield could prove to be crucial.
