Henry and Shields in Australian Under-21 Final

Christian Henry has been selected for a second major final by Motorcycling Australia. He has already made the Senior Final to be held next week. He now appears in the Junior Final a couples of weeks later. He is joined by Monarchs' new signing Ben Shields.

The event will be held at Gillman Speedway in Adelaide's north side on February 17th. The field for the event in race order is as follow:

1. Brendon Mackay (Northern Terratory)
2. Rusty Harrison (South Australia)
3. Scott James (South Australia)
4. Kevin Doolan (Victoria)
5. Jaye Stevens (New South Wales)
6. Travis McGowan (Victoria)
7. Todd Groves (Queensland)
8. Lee Hearne (New South Wales)
9. Troy Strojakovic (South Australia)
10. Dean Wiseman (New South Wales)
11. Christian Henry (Queensland)
12. Nathan Hedley (Victoria)
13. Trent Leverington (Queensland)
14. Ben Shields (New South Wales)
15. Chris Fergusson (Victoria)
16. Ashley Jones

Reserves

1. Shane Gromball (South Australia)
2. Rory Schlein (Northern Terratory)

Both Christian and Ben will be looking for a rostrum place. The strongest riders are likely to be Travis McGowan and Kevin Doolan. Both have extensive Elite League experience in Britain and finished first and second last year. Scott Smith was third last year but is not competing this time. Ben was fourth and Christian fifth. Former Glasgow rider Rusty Harrison is another strong contender in the event. Like Christian he is also in the Senior Final. Dean Wiseman has been mentioned as a Hull target may also be in contention.

The draw published by Motorcycling Australia included Workington's Darren Groves at number 7. Since he is currently in England and is still recovering from a neck injury sustained last year, it is assumed that this is in error. It is most likely that fellow Queenslander but unrelated Todd Groves is the intended rider.

A full report will appear on this website.

Christian Henry will have received some good news from Edinburgh in the form of a sponsorship cheque for £1,000. Blair Scott and Derek Sneddon also received cheques for £1,000.
