Andersen is now permanently based in Rugby in the Midlands of England and married an English girl, Samantha, at the end of last year. Initially it was believed that the travel may have prevented Jan moving back to the Club who have owned his contract for almost ten years but as Edinburgh co-promoter said,"From the moment I first offered the chance to Jan to come back and ride for us in the Premier League he jumped at the chance and we were able to sort a deal very quickly. The only matter that caused a slight delay was the fact that Jan had already committed himself to ride in a dozen meetings in Sweden on a Thursday night. That means he will fly into Edinburgh on those weeks and arrangements have now been made to bring his bikes up from the Midlands in the weeks in question. We are delighted to have Jan back on board. He has very infectious enthusiasm which I think will rub off on the rest of the team. That could be worth a point or two to us in some matches."
Said Jan, "It's like a dream come true to be back with the Monarchs. It's like going home and I still have many friends in Edinburgh. I'll start with an average of 5.71 but I'll be disappointed if I can't add three points at least to that. I can't wait for the season to get underway."
Jan joins Peter Carr, Blair Scott, Christian Henry and Derek Sneddon in the team for the 2001 season which gets underway at Armadale Stadium at the end of March. Talks are continuing with two other riders to complete the team.
