Peter finished second in the poll in 1997 when the Commonwealth Games gold medalist boxer Alex Arthur won. In 1998, it was Kenny McKinna who took the runner up place after being narrowly edged out by Hearts' manager Jim Jefferies. Last year Peter Carr would surely have been a major contender but was mysteriously omitted from the short list. This gave Hibs' midfielder Russell Latapy a clear run to win the award.
Peter admitted that the prize for him was being there:
"It's an unbelievable honour. Four years ago, I was second, so to win is just great."
"But for me, it's great just to mix with the famous people from all the sports. You don't get the opportunity to meet some of these people very often. Everyone has heard of Alan Wells and what he did at the Olympics, and Niall McKenzie is a big hero of mine."
"Then there were all the football people. I was glad to be part of it."
The result illustrates the impact that Edinburgh Monarchs and in particular Peter Carr are making on the public in the East of Scotland.
The event was hosted by Monarchs' centre green presenter Scott Wilson of Forth AM.
