Brady keen to stay at Edinburgh

Ross Brady has taken a relaxed attitude to the rather implausible rumours of a move to Sheffield. Speaking to David Kinvig in the Edinburgh Pink, Ross said:

"It wouldn't bother me to move to a club like Sheffield. It's a big track and I like big tracks. However I think I'll still be an Edinburgh rider."

Ross is currently negotiating with John Campbell about a 2001 contract and has asked for a small increase in personal terms.

"It's nothing substantial just a modest rise. It might have been different had I finished the season on a ten-point average! But I had a bad season, so I am not in a position to make huge demands."

"I don't see any major problems over my re-signing but you never can tell. If I couldn't agree a new deal I would have to then move on. I have no idea where the Sheffield rumour started. I certainly have not had any contact with them. But people are entitled to say what they like especially after the dreadful season I had with Monarchs."

"I don't want to leave Armadale because Peter Carr has been such a great help to me. However if I did join another club I'm sure he would continue to give me the same level of help."

Mike Hunter stated that he would be amazed if Brady did move to Sheffield:

"I don't think Sheffield would naturally take an interest in Ross. He was terrible at Owlerton this season. The only way Sheffield would express an interest in him would be if Ross's average fitted into one of their team permutations. If Sheffield had five odd points to play with they might see Ross as slotting in with a potential to improve that average."

Edinburgh and Sheffield have both made no secret of their interest in André Compton. The rider himself had identified Armadale and Owlerton as his preferred tracks for 2001. However it is possible that both will miss out with Compton likely to stay with Newcastle. If this deal comes off it will represent a change of heart by the rider who appeared to rule him self out of another season at Brough Park in an interview in Speedway Star.

Monarchs first Video night of the close season takes place next Saturday. Hopefully there may be some team news to announce at that event.
