Carr and Henry sign on for 2001

The Monarchs' team for 2001 is starting to take shape although the first two or three riders to be confirmed will cause no great surprise to Monarchs' supporters. Peter Carr not not only signed for the new season, but was confirmed as Monarchs' captain for a second season. It was also confirmed that Christian Henry had signed to ride at reserve.

It was excpected that Carr would sign after having such a successful time in 2000. Carr did admit in the Edinburgh Evening News:

"Had this year gone badly for me then I probably would have packed up. However I enjoyed a good season and improved my average from the previous year. I'm still enjoying my speedway. And I still have plenty of aggression left in me. I hate to be beaten."

Monarchs director Mike Hunter added:

"We are delighted to have Peter leading the team again. This time last year he was all for retiring. You sometimes never know where you are with him. However he remains very keen about his racing and as long as he feels like that he'll carry on for the forseeable future."

Christian Henry is spending the close season back home in Australia was pleased to return next year. It is anticipated that he will partner Derek Sneddon at reserve. Christian commented:

"It's been quite a learning process for me this season and at times it has been hard. But I'm pleased Edinburgh have offered me the reserve berth again. Hopefully by the time I return for the new season I will be in far stronger shape and better prepared."

Discussions with Robert Eriksson are still under way. Mike Hunter said:

"Discussion with Robert are ongoing. Negotiations between rider and promoter don't always reach an instant conclusion. Robert has suggested what his terms are for racing again. He is available to ride provided we can reach a deal with him."
