Kevin Little was a popular winner of the Scottish Riders Championship at Armadale on Friday. He won the final after a tight early duel with not favourite James Grieves.
There were late call-offs by Steven McAllister and Ryan Milburn. Jaz Denholm and George Wells came in to replace them.
The meeting was nearly an hour late starting after problems with the earlier Confernce League match between Ashfield Lightning Giants and Sheffield Prowlers. As a result the last two qualifying heats were not run and the top four riders after two heats went straight to the final.
Blair Scott won his first two heats as did James Grieves. Kevin Little and David Meldrum both had two seconds. The delay cost the heat 6 confrontation between Grieves and Scott.
Grieves gated in the final with Blair Scott and Kevin Little all over him. While Grieves was looking to block an inside run by Scott, Little picked up extra drive to sweep past on the back straight. Once ahead, Little had no problems staying ahead to succeed Kenny McKinna as the Scottish Riders Championship.
Little picked up the Heathersfield Gold Helmet and the Douglas Miller Trophy.
Blair Scott took third place in the final to secure the Dick McNicholl Trophy and the Under-21 Championship.
Robert McNeil took the Dougie Robertson Trophy as the Under-18 Champion. Derek Sneddon was set to take this when he stopped with engine problems when ahead of McNeil in heat 3. Earlier in the evening, Derek Sneddon took a magnificent 21-point full maximum in the Conference League match. This must have cleared up any lingering doubts about his suitability to take the Monarchs Number 7 race jacket next year. Robert McNeil also took a six-ride paid maximum against Sheffield.
In the separate Junior Championship over two heats, William Lawson won the Ruth and Jack Grant Memorial Trophy ahead of Andrew Tully and Gary Beaton.
