Carr chases unique record

Peter Carr is one home match away from setting the highest hoe league average ever achieved by a Monarch with the exception of a that set by Jack Young nearly 50 years ago.

Peter has been beaten by an opposition rider in only four races out of 59 in the Premier League at Armadale this year. Two of the heats were against Workington, one when he fell in heat 7 and one when he was unable to pass Carl Stonehewer and Lee Smethills. Heat 15 against Reading was lost to Phil Morris while the only point he has dropped in the last ten matches was heat 5 against Hull when Paul Thorp won a thrilling race. This gives him a home Premier League average of 11.53.

No-one, not even Peter Carr, is going to beat the all-time Monarchs home league record average. That is held by Jack Young who won all 56 heats he raced at Old Meadowbank in 1951. Monarchs were in the second division and Jack Young became World Champion that year. Carr is, however, on course to beat the averages set by Jack Young in 1949 and 1950 and by anyone else for that matter. To do that he can afford to drop one point against Exeter on Friday.

It would be a brave gambler who would bet against Peter Carr achieving his fifteenth maximum of the year in all competitions at Armadale against Exeter.

Carr will have to contend with Michael Coles who is one of the best riders in the Premier League on all tracks.

Peter Carr's passing ability at Armadale have become legendary. He doesn't seem that bothered about making the gate anymore. This emphasizes the comparisons with Jack Young. He was a notoriously bad starter.
