Peter Carr second in PRLC

Peter Carr came cose to winning his second Premier League Riders' Championship in four years at Sheffield on Sunday. He came second in the final behind Grand Prix rider Carl Stonehewer.

Carr made a slow start only collecting thwo third places and a second place in his first three rides. He finished better and took another second and a win to end on 9 points from five rides. This just took him into the semi-final ahead of Robbie Kessler, Paul Fry, and André Compton who each scored 8 points. Carl Stonehewer and Paul Pickering both went through to the final on 14 points. Sean Wilson on 13 points was in the semi-final along with Alan Mogridge on 12 points plus Peter Carr and Paul Thorp on 8 points.

In the semi-final, Thorp suffered an engine failure and retired. Wislon led the way from Mogridge until the Berwick rider fell on the last bend after Carr cut inside on the third band. This gave Carr a place in the final.

In the Final, Wilson and Carr were well ahead of Stonehewer when Wilson was adjudged to have put Carr into the fence and was excluded.

Stonehewer won the re-run ahead of Carr and Pickering.

Robert Eriksson was also competing but withdrw from the meeting after three heats having scored one point.
