Edinburgh are in no hurry to find a replacement for Robert Eriksson to ride in the 2001 season. It was pointed out that the story which was publicized last weekend was in fact known in March when Robert rejoined Monarchs.
Since there is still time for changes in plans, the Monarchs promotion will be taking no active steps at this stage. Robert decided to sit out the 1998 season but changed his mind at the last minute. By then it was impossible for Monarchs to fit him in and he joined Belle Vue for what turned out to be a short spell.
Monarchs will be delighted if he changes his mind again but in any case will welcome him back if, as he intends, he returns in 2002. There will be no rush to replace him until intentions become certainties.
The return of Robert Eriksson has proved a masterstoke as he this year looks like being his best in British Speedway since he joined Monarchs as a 21 year-old in 1995.
