Edinburgh crush Newport

Edinburgh produced a stunning win over old rivals Newport by 55 points to 35 but found the bonus point way out of reach after going down by 32 points at Queensway Meadow earlier in the season.

Most of the Monarchs team got in on the act apart from Kevin Little who was excluded twice, once rather unfortunately, in a score of 4 points from four rides. Peter Carr produced another maximum without looking remotely threatened. Robert Eriksson missed out on a maximum when he was caught napping by André Compton on the third band of the last lap of heat 13.

Ross Brady was only beaten by one visitor, again Newport guest Compton. Ross scored 8 paid 10 from four rides. Blair Scott also had great meeting despite running last in the opening heat picking up 6 paid 7 points from 4. Will Beveridge at last appears to be putting some scores together with 6 paid 7 from four. Christian Henry had a relatively lean time with 3 paid 4 but did encounter a couple of tactical substitutes in his four rides.

Newport were brought down to earth after their win at Glasgow last night. Chris Neath, who scored 16 points from six rades there found the going much tougher at Armadale and struggled to 7 paid 9 from six rides. Ben Howe, a firm favourite of the Monarchs fans in the Powderhall days was very disappointing with a flettering 10 points from seven rides. Guest André Compton was the only rider to seriously both most of the Edinburgh team but his riding remains on the verge of being reckless. He made himself very unpopular at Glasgow with his tactics and won few friends at Atmadale despite being good value for 14 points from six rides.

Craig Taylor and the Newport reserves made little impression picking up only three points between them.
