Monarchs crushed at Newport

Edinburgh produced dismal scoreline at Newport against a weak looking home team going down to their biggest defeat of the season. Newport's biggest win prior to this was 51-42 against Berwick and they were beaten 47-43 at home last week. The home team produced a great performance to make up for their loss at home to Sheffield last week.

The Queensway Meadow track is one of the least favourites for most Edinburgh riders despite the fact that it is similar in length to Armadale. Most of the heats were won from the gate although Kevin Little did manage to battle through from the back for a paid win in heat 12 to secure the sole Monarchs' heat advantage. When Anders Henriksson missed the start in heat 15 he remained at the back.

Peter Carr scored 11 paid 12 points from six rides. Robert Eriksson had 8 points also from six and Kevin Little 6 paid 7 from five rides. There was little support for the heat leaders from the rest of the team. Blair Scott took 2 paid 3 from 4 rides, Will Beveridge and Christian Henry both scored 1 from three rides. Ross Brady failed to score from three rides.

Edinburgh need to pick themselves up before tomorrow's match at Reading.

This result means that Sheffield now edge to the top of the Premier League, with Edinburgh third. It is very congested at the top of the Premier League with Edinburgh one of five teams on 12 points. Exeter are one point behind and seem certain to go top on Monday unless Edinburgh can get a result at Reading.
