Edinburgh's match against Stoke at Loomer Road was called-off by the referee on a sunny evening. The Stoke promotion blamed this on the Monarchs' team or rather six of the team who were unwilling to race.
The problem was that the track was piled high with loose dirt. Then either due at a heavy shower in the afternoon or due to over-watering the track was rendered unridable in the view of the Monarchs' camp. The referee suggested some corrective action be taken. This was ignored by the Stoke promotion until near the scheduled start time. They attempted to blade the track but made matters much worse.
Eventually the match was called-off at 7.30pm.
