Edinburgh ground out a narrow win over a determined Hull side after a last heat decider at Armadale. The result was never really in doubt as long as Monarchs kept close enough to allow the dominant Carr/Eriksson partnership to wrap things up in heats 13 and 15. The Monarchs top pairing duly delivered two 5-1 advantages in the key heats to secure not only the win but also the bonus point.
The fact that Hull kept things close and indeed led from heat 2 right through to heat 13 was down to the reserves. Monarchs were without two reserves due to injury to David McAllan and Christian Henry. The stand-ins Jon Swales and Derek Sneddon scored only one point in eight rides. Their Hull counterparts scored a whopping ten plus three. By next week Blair Scott will be down at reserve although it is unclear if Christian will be fit to join him.
Peter Carr secured a paid maximum while Robert Eriksson only dropped a single point to the Vikings guest Ray Morton. Kevin Little and Blair Scott weighed in with support although Ross Brady is still toiling.
This completes the preseason stage for Monarchs with the real thing starting at Arena Essex on Saturday.
