Hull Vikings appear to have secured the second qualification place from the Northern Group of the Premier National Trophy. They secured a shock win at Workington by 47 points to 45 at Derwent Park.
The top scorer for Hull was none other than Peter Carr who secured 12 points guesting in place of Gary Stead.
Hull now only need to win one of their last three matches to ensure qualification. They are at home to Glasgow and Workington next month and away to Edinburgh this Friday.
In the Southern Group, Swindon and Exeter seem assured of qualification. Exeter have won all their home matches but lost all their away matches. However the margin of their home wins ahve been enough to take all six bonus points. Swindon have an excellent away record and have secured enough points despite patchy home form.
The remaining matches, six in the Northern Group and three in the Southern group have essentially become 'dead fixtures' with little more status than challenge matches. Most teams will want to concentrate on the Premier Leagie campaign and on first round Premier League cup ties.
An analysis of the qualification group results will appear on these pages soon.
