Monarchs hit back to beat Tigers

Monarchs were given a tough time by Sheffield at Armadale but managed to win after a last heat decider. This gained partial revenge for their drubbing at Owlerton a day earlier.

The match was not without its controversial moments. In heat one Sean Wilson clearly took out Kevin Little and was excluded. Kevin managed to ride on despite a bad fall. His bike went smashed through the security fence. Robbie Kessler didn't endear himself when he stayed down after falling in heat 13 to get the race stopped. There was disbelief when he was allowed back into the re-run to gain an inevitable 5-1 for Sheffield. After winning the heat he made a gesture to the Monarchs supporters that would have cost a footballer a hefty fine and a suspension. He pulled out of heat 15 after being passed by Robert Eriksson.

Peter Carr was once more unbeatable with an untroubled 15-point maximum.

Match Report

This result almost certainly ends Monarchs chances of qulaification in the Premier National Trophy. The maximum number of points Monarchs can gain is 16. Hull will need to lose home and away to Workington and do no better than draw at home to Glasgow. Sheffield would have to lose at Newcastle and fail to take the bonus of Berwick when winning the home leg.
