Brady out as Monarchs lose

Edinburgh lost at Workington by 51 points to 39 at Derwent Park on a warm dust Bank Holiday afternoon. Monarchs suffered an early blow when Ross Brady, who was Edinburgh most prolific point scorer at Workington last year, suffered a reaction to his injured foot and had to withdraw after trailing last in his first ride.

Monarchs slipped 12 points behind after six heats but managed to contain things after that. Peter Carr won three of his six races, two from the back, in a fifteen point score. Robert Eriksson also won three of six rides posting a score of twelve paid thirteen. Kevin Little and Blair Scott battled on without much reward for scores of five and four points respectively from five rides each. Christian Henry took two points from four rides while Brian Turner had one paid two from three rides and a tape exclusion.

Workington used rider replacement for Barry Campbell and probably gained from it as they were able to use Peter Karlsson in heat eight and took 7 paid 8 from Barry's four scheduled rides which was the same as Carl Stonehewer scored!.

Monarchs look a better proposition on the big away tracks than the 1999 team. If they can sort out the lack of points from number six position and get Ross Brady fit and back to form, they could yet be in contention for silverware.
