Edinburgh miss out at Glasgow

Edinburgh suffered an agonizing last heat defeat at Glasgow after leaading the match from heat one. Monarchs went into the last heat with a single point lead that was reversed after James Grieves and Les Collins took a 4-2 off Peter Carr and Robert Eriksson to give Tigers a 45-44 win.

It was a match that Monarchs should have won. They provided ten of the fifteen heat winners but missed out due to a engine failures and, crucially, tape offenses in heat s 13 and 14. Christian Henry suffered two engine failures in heats he would have expected to score in and touched the tapes in heat 14 and had to go of the 15m line. Kevin Little had an engine failure when second in heat 10. Peter Carr touched the tapes in heat 13 and was replaced by Christian Henry. Monarchs did get a 4-2 in heat 13 following a Les Collins puncture but would have probably scored a 5-1 with Carr in the field.

There were a number of successes for Monarchs with Robert Eriksson looking unbeatable until he ran last in heat 15. His four wins included two from the back with an inside pass of James Grieves in heat 1 being followed by an outside pass of Les Collins in heat 11. Kevin Little had wins over Emiliano Sanchez and Les Collins before blowing up his engine chasing James Grieves.

Blair Scott was solid and had a heat 8 win. Christian Henry produced a great Ashfield performance winning heat 2 and scored seven paid eight despite two engine failures and a last following his tape offence.

Ross Brady struggled while Brian Turner failed to score.

This defeat might prove fatal to Monarchs' lingering chances of progressing in the Premier National Trophy.
