Brian Turner's career threatened

The speedway career of Brian Turner is under threat from the wrist injury sustained last year and aggrevated at the start of the season. He was advised by a specialist to quit the sport.

Brian intends to defy medical advice and carry on:

"I'll carry on racing for as long as I can."

Edinburgh's 21-year old will return on Friday for the International Challenge against the Czech Republic touring team.

Brian sustained ligament damage and was told not to ride again because another injury to the wrist could damage it beyond repair. Turner said:

"I was warned to forget about getting back on a bike because my wrist is going to get progressively worse the more knocks it gets. But I'm not bothered. They can say what they like, I will carry on riding."

"To avoid further visits the specialist told me to stop racing. But he knows nothing about speedway. I tried to explain it to him but he insisted that my wrist would never be able to cope with the pressure of racing a bike every week."

"I can't push myself up from the floor with my hands, it hurts too much. However I'm happy to give things a go. But if my wrist gets worse and affects me long-term I'll have second thoughts."

"Obviously if I suffered another crash or came off and my wrist was to break in half, I'd stop."

The injury has not come at the best of times. David McAllan is probably some weeks away from being able to make a comeback. Jon Swales would be a very capable replacement if he could get hold of a competitive bike.
