Robert Eriksson third at Ashfield

Robert Eriksson made a solid start to the season with third place in the Norrie Isbister Memorial Trophy meeting at Glasgow. Robert was top scorer in the main event dropping only one point in four rides when he was passed by Emiliano Sanchez. In the final, the winner was Jesper Olsen with Emiliano Sanchez second, Eriksson third and Paul Bentley fourth.

The main event was preceded by a qualifying event of six junior riders, in which each had two riders. The top two joined the field for the main event and the third placed rider was reserve. Surprisingly neither of the Glasgow reserves made it through with Wesley Waite and Gary Flint qualifying.

Blair Scott failed to make much of an impression but this is not that surprising given the strength of the field. He did managed to beat Will Beveridge, a sometime heat leader for Glasgow last year, in his last ride.

Ian Hoskins was guest of honour at the meeting. Internet mailing list correspondant Graham Kelly commented that "to the disappointment of the older Glasgow fans, his hat remained unburnt! (to the uninitiated, this was a weekly ritual at Glasgow's old White Ciry track)".
