Kevin Little to Captain Monarchs Again?

Although no official announcement has been made, the fact that Kevin Little has signed for 2000 suggests that he is expected to become captain once more.

Edinburgh promoter John Campbell was delighted that Kevin had sorted out the sponsorship to enable him to stay:

"I get on very well with Kevin. And it is great to have him back in the team. Kevin did underachieve last year but I think we will see a big improvement from him. And that's what it boils down to, obtaining riders who can increase their average."

Apart from lack of confidence following a number of falls, Little was hampered by mechanical problems last season. He is upgrading his equipment after obtaining financial assistance from Monarchs' director Ronnie Anderson.

Kevin Little added:

"Taking the skipper's position for the first time was a learning process for me. I think I learned to be a good captain when we were winning. But I wasn't very good when we were losing, or when I wasn't riding very well."

Kevin had the problem in following two of the great characters of the game, Les Collins and Kenny McKinna, his predecessor as captain of the Monarchs.

"I'm not the best captain in the world. I've ridden for a few captains over the years and nobody put more input than my predecessor Kenny McKinna. He was a born leader. It's difficult to be in that position when you are not a forceful leader-type person."
