Glasgow fail in fresh bid for Brady

Glasgow have made a new approach to lure Edinburgh teenager Ross Brady to the west. Ross had already turned down a big money move last year when Glasgow were given permission to speak to him.

There has been a delay in Ross signing for up the 2000 season with Edinburgh because his contract is still held by Peterborough who were unwilling to discuss the issue until they had sorted out their own team. A further loan spell is unlikely to raise problems but Edinburgh wish to persue a full transfer.

With Edinburgh asset Jan Andersen a key member of Peterborough's squad for the last two years, a swap deal remains on the cards. Peterborough are still finalizing their own team and have not yet decided if there will be a place for Jan.

In the meantime Glasgow stepped in with a offer to transfer Brady which was accepted by the cash-strapped Alwalton outfit.

Glasgow promoter Brian Sands commented:

"There is no doubt that young Ross has a great deal of potential and feel that he would have progressed greatly at Glasgow, which is one of the best venues in British speedway. I spoke to Peterborough and we agreed a deal that would have seen him move to Ashfield on a permanent basis and also would have made him the best paid rider in Scottish Speedway history. Although it involved a great deal of money, we are looking to the future and to build up our asset base."

When the potential transfer was put to Ross he again turned down Glasgow. Brian Sands added:

"Ross has told me that he wants to remain a Peterborough asset in the meantime, and it now looks likely that he will be returning to Edinburgh in the coming season. This however does not deter us from looking to strengthen our asset base and we will now try to finalise the remainder of our team for the coming season. We have waited for this matter to be sorted out but we will now hope to conclude things shortly."

It does appear to confirm the previous position that Ross will remain at Armadale for the next season either on loan or on a full transfer with Jan Andersen in part exchange.
