Premier League Fours 2nd Semi-Final
East of England Showground, Alwalton
Sunday 30th August 1998
The two favourites qualified after Newport made
a great start. Newcastle were never in contention due to the loss of Nicki
Pedersen and the current poor form of Jesper Olsen.
Nigel Sadler retired early to huge cheers leaving the way for Paul Fry to win from Thorp.
(2-3-1-0)
Craig Watson secured a second win for Newport from Glenn Cunningham. James Birkinshaw a late replacement for the injured Nicki Pedersen finished last.
(3-6-1-2)
A predictable win for Berge ahead of Dicken. Scott Pegler had a great pass of Stuart Swales.
(6-7-1-5)
Grahame gated and won. This left things very tight between the top three.
(8-7-2-7)
Henriksson gated and held on while Cunningham took advantage of a slip by Thorp to take second.
(9-10-2-9)
This heat was re-run after Fry fell and was excluded. Grahame gated once more but made a mistake to allow Berge to pass.
(11-10-3-12)
Werner secured a win for Newcastle but Woodifield took second to ensure qualification for the home team.
(12-10- 6-14)
Paul Bentley recovered from an early slip to pass Scott Pegler and take second behind Sadler. Jesper Olson stopped.
(14-11-6-17)
